You can use the same range of food with both of them and the food will stay just as fresh with one as it will with the other.
We liked how the FoodSaver 5380 was a little bit lighter; however, we also felt that the additional weight of the FoodSaver 5480 made it feel a little sturdier. Although the design tends to be a personal preference, we favored the FoodSaver 5480, but the only reason for this was that the controls buttons stood out more.
Our overall winner was the FoodSaver 5480. It was a little more expensive, but you do receive a lot more in the starter kit which adds to the value for money. The design was impressive, and the results were consistently good.
