SodaStream Source vs One Touch

Sparkling water makers can save you money in the long run. Not only that, but you also have full control of the ingredients you put in your drink. Sodas are filled with an excessive amount of sugar that can affect your health. With a sparkling water maker, you can choose and measure how much sugar you want to intake.

SodaStream is one of the main players in the sparkling water industry. They sell different models of sparkling water makers, from a manual one to automatic ones. In this article, we are going to take a look at two of their offerings – the Source and the Fizzi One Touch.

Stay Healthy and Hydrated

As mentioned in the introduction, using a standalone sparkling water maker helps you stay healthy and hydrated while saving you money in the long run. It is indeed healthier than sodas you get from the supermarket. It can save you money since you don’t have to constantly buy bottles after bottles of sparkling water. You can turn your tap water to fizzy sparkling water in just mere seconds with either the Source or Fizzi One Touch. You can also put fruit drops into the water if you think that soda water is too plain. SodaStream sells fruit drops separately.

CO2 Cylinder Compatibility

The carbonation process starts with its CO2 cylinder installed on the back of the Source or Fizzi One Touch. Both sparkling water makers have the same compatibility and capacity of CO2 cylinders. While the Fizzi One Touch has a 60-liter CO2 carbonator out of the box, the SodaStream Source comes with the Mini CO2 carbonator that can make up to 9 liters of sparkling water. Moreover, you can get a 60-liter CO2 carbonator using the mail-in rebate. You can also avail of SodaStream’s Mail Gas Exchange Service. You can exchange your empty cylinder for filled ones. This service is said to save you 45% in shipping fees. Cylinder spares are also available.

Carbonating Bottles Compatibility

Both the Source and Fizzi One Touch come with a BPA-free reusable carbonating bottle with a 1-liter capacity. Besides the health benefits of being BPA-free, this reusable bottle helps to avoid using single-use plastics. Thus, both are deemed to be environmentally friendly. Although these are not as elegant as the glass carafes that come with the SodaStream Aqua Fizz, these still serve their purpose of holding water while the carbonation process on-going.

SodaStream Source vs SodaStream Fizzi One Touch – Differences

Let’s look at the differences between these soda makers.

Design

One of these SodaStream products is designed by a renowned designer. Let’s find out which.

SodaStream Source

The SodaStream Source has a different design language as the typical SodaStream products. The Source has a rougher and boxy shape. The way of starting the carbonation process is different as well. The front part of the Source is required to be pushed down to start the carbonation process. The reason behind this is it is designed by a renowned designer, Yves Béhar. The Source comes in black and white variants.

SodaStream Fizzi One Touch

The Source indeed has a refreshing design, but the design has nothing to do with functionality. Both function as expected. If you prioritize function over design (or design by a popular designer for that matter), then the Fizzi One Touch is for you. Otherwise, pick the Source. There is one problem with having a famous designer dictate how the product looks like, however. More on this later.

Carbonation Process

Both use CO2 as the means of carbonating water. Although they are using an identical tank, there is one small difference that can make a big effect on your decision.

SodaStream Source

As mentioned before, the Source comes with the Mini CO2 carbonator and a 60-L carbonator mail-in rebate. One may think that due to this, the Source is superior. The Source is not superior in any way in terms of the carbonation process. It uses a manual pump action to introduce CO2 to the water. Although it has LED indicators of how much CO2 is put in the water, it is not as convenient as an automatic sparkling water maker.

SodaStream Fizzi One Touch

On the other hand, the Fizzi One Touch has automatic carbonation. Staying true to its name, creating sparkling water with the Fizzi One Touch is easy as it requires only one touch. Moreover, you can also choose the level of carbonation with the three buttons on its top.

Price and Warranty

Let’s look at their prices and warranty to determine which sparkling water is better.

SodaStream Source

While having a famous designer create a product has its advantages, it has one big caveat in my opinion. I get why people tend to buy products by famous designers, the absurd prices that come with the famous name is what I do not get. With that said, the Source is one of these products. It has a one-year warranty.

SodaStream Fizzi One Touch

In contrast, the Fizzi One Touch is indeed cheaper. Since both have the exact functionality, the Fizzi One Touch is no doubt the better product.

The Final Verdict

With the rise in popularity of diets, I don’t see in the foreseeable future that the trend in sparkling water to fizzle out. That is why I suggest you buy one of these two machines. Most importantly, it is healthy for you and the environment. But after writing this comparison, I conclude that the SodaStream Fizzi One Touch is better overall.
