It is true that both the Hamilton Beach 31103 and the Hamilton Beach 31104 both get very hot around the sides, so you will need to factor in a little extra room than the dimensions so that there is a safe distance.

As the settings and features are both the same, really the decision came down to the design. Although Hamilton Beach 31103 is a little bigger, we preferred the design. The stainless steel looks cleaner. The contoured knobs are also a nice touch. Seeing as it is a little cheaper, we felt the Hamilton Beach 31103 was the better buy.
