OontZ Angle 3 vs JBL FLIP 4

Let’s see how similar these portable Blootooth speakers are.

Portability and Bluetooth Version

Earphones and headphones, especially Bluetooth ones, are the undisputed kings in terms of portable audio equipment. However, you cannot share your music with others using these. Also, you cannot start a party with these. In that case, a portable speaker, such as the OontZ Angle 3 and JBL FLIP 4, is THE solution. Both speakers have Bluetooth 4.2 embedded inside them so you can connect your devices wirelessly. Both have long-distance transmitters and receivers so you can change the music even when you are in the next room. The OontZ has a longer connection distance of 100 feet but this distance is unobstructed. On the other hand, JBL has not officially mentioned its maximum connect distance. But you can expect the same distance because both have Bluetooth 4.2.

Wired Connection

Aside from connecting wirelessly to either speaker, you can also connect directly via their auxiliary port. You must have an aux cable to do so. Unfortunately, both speakers do not come with an aux cable. You can easily and cheaply buy an aux cord, anyway. Playing music through this port can save the battery life of both the speaker and your source device since it is not using a Bluetooth connection.

Available in Multiple Colors

Aside from the bass-y and crisp music from both the OontZ Angle 3 and JBL FLIP 4, they can be the life of your party because both are available in multiple colors. Besides the typical color of black, white, red, or blue, you can choose a more playful color such as the Coca-Cola red, camouflage, or teal!

Differences between OontZ Angle 3 and JBL FLIP 4

The most important thing is to show you the differences between the OontZ Angle 3 and the JBL FLIP 4. Knowing the differences between these two Bluetooth portable speakers will bring you closer to deciding which speaker will be a better choice for you.

Build and Design

When placed side-by-side, you can instantly see their difference in build and design.

OontZ Angle 3

As its name suggests, the OontZ Angle 3 has a more angular design. It has a triangular construction that looks like a larger Toblerone. The Angle 3 has a shorter body due to its dimension of 5.3 x 2.8 x 2.6 inches. Consequently, it is more lightweight weighing only 9 ounces because of its reduced size.

JBL FLIP 4

The JBL FLIP 4 has a pill-like design with a flat bottom; thus, it is rounder than the Angle 3. Additionally, it is longer and heavier than its competitor. The FLIP 4 measures at 2.76 x 6.89 x 2.68 inches. It weighs twice as the Angle 3 at around 1.14 pounds. Choosing which has better design depends on your preference. However, the portability that a shorter and more lightweight body brings cannot be ignored. With that said, the OontZ Angle 3 takes this category.

Audio Quality

Playing music is the main purpose of a speaker. That is exactly why audio quality is paramount to any speaker.

OontZ Angle 3

The OontZ Angle 4 features a peak output power of 10 watts. This power is more than sufficient for most use cases. Its volume can easily fill a medium-sized room. In terms of audio quality, it is one of the best in its price range. There is no distortion even with its maximum volume. You can expect punchy but not muddy bass. The highs are also crisp. And the mids are clear.

JBL FLIP 4

JBL made huge strides in terms of audio quality versus the previous generation. The FLIP 4 improved the already great sound quality of the FLIP 3. One of its subtle differences is in the highs. Distortion in max volume is significantly reduced compared to the FLIP 3. The mids are clearer and crisper while bringing a beefier and thumpy bass.

Multiple Devices Connection

A single speaker is undoubtedly not enough to cover your house completely. You must have at least two speakers to cover more areas.

OontZ Angle 3

Unfortunately, you cannot chain more than one OontZ Angle 3. Therefore, you cannot use it for larger parties. However, you can get around it by using an audio jack splitter. It is possible but I do not recommend it.

JBL FLIP 4

Connecting multiple JBL FLIP 4 is simple. There is an app made just for this – the JBL Connect+. You can make a surround setup and amplify the sound with two FLIP 4 using the stereo mode. Or you can blast the music from multiple FLIP 4 with the party mode. The app is also compatible with other JBL speakers. You can download this app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

The Winner Is- JBL FLIP 4

Waterproof Rating

Although both speakers have an IPX rating, they differ in the amount of water they can resist.

OontZ Angle 3

The OontZ Angle 3 has an IPX5 rating. This rating is more like a water resistance rating rather than a waterproof rating. IPX5 devices can resist splashes and low-pressure water jet spray. Thus, it is not advisable to soak the Angle 3 in water or any liquid.

JBL FLIP 4

In contrast, the JBL FLIP 4 has a more capable waterproof rating of IPX7. The FLIP 4 can certainly be dipped into the water. Its IPX7 rating allows it to be submerged up to a meter of water for 30 minutes. Accidentally dropping it in water will not cause damage to the JBL FLIP 4.

Battery Life

Another factor that affects the portability of a speaker is its battery life. Having a larger battery translates to a longer music listening session.

OontZ Angle 3

The OontZ Angle 3 has a lower battery capacity of 2200 mAh. Although it has an inferior battery capacity, it has a longer advertised estimated battery life of 14 hours. Its battery life depends on how loud you are listening to music. This 14-hour rating is based on 2/3 of the maximum volume. Thus, you will get less than 14 hours when you crank the volume to the maximum. One strong disadvantage the Angle 3 has over the FLIP 4 is the slow charging time. It takes around 8 hours for a full charge. Moreover, it charges via a micro USB cable.

JBL FLIP 4

JBL FLIP 4’s battery is rated at 3000 mAh. JBL markets the FLIP 4 to have around 12 hours of battery life. Although it has a lower advertised battery life, you can charge it faster anyway. It only takes roughly 3 and a half hours for a full charge. Sadly, it also charges via micro USB and not USB Type-C port.
